3 Questions to Ask About Emergency Tree Removal

June 29, 2020 by Chris Reed

In stormy weather or other hazardous conditions, it is not uncommon for trees to fall. In some cases, the tree may cause serious property damage to residential properties. If a tree fell on your home or car, what can you do? Here are three questions to ask when it comes to emergency tree removal.

Who Should You Call?

When a tree falls on a structure, it is almost always an emergency. Your first call may be to the insurance company, but you should call a removal service as soon as possible. Often, you will need the job taken care of within a few hours of the event. Sometimes, you do have to wait, but this is usually when the tree falls late at night when the contractors cannot safely remove it.

Is Tree Removal Covered By Insurance?

Insurance may cover tree removal if it falls on a house, fence, shed or car. If the tree caused property damage, your best option is to contact the insurance company as soon as possible. Sometimes insurance companies will have preferred tree removal services for you to choose from.

Is Your Neighbor Responsible?

This is a tricky question. If a tree falls in your yard and causes property damage, the question of liability can come up. Not only can trees cause damage, but the removal itself may cost money. In most cases, if the tree falls in your yard, it is your responsibility. There is an exception, however. If your neighbor was negligent with the tree, then it is his or her responsibility. For instance, if the tree was overgrown or dying and the neighbor had warnings to remove the tree or to trim it, then he or she may have to pay for the cleanup.

If a tree falls on your property, you must have it cleared up right away. When a tree falls on a structure or damages property, you may need emergency tree removal.
